版によるテキストの違い

訳出しながら、版によって相違するところはそのつど指摘しましたが、ここに一覧にして掲載します。

比較したテキスト
eBookのテキストは「Project Gutenberg」に公開されているデータを2017年5月にダウンロードしたものです。
印刷本は以下のものです。
初版 :Seeley Service and Co Ltd  1913年
第二版:Seeley Service and Co Ltd  出版年不明、初版から程なく出版か。
第三版:1917年Seeley Service and Co Ltdから出版された第三版を基に、1972年DOVERP Publicationから再版。現在流通している。

本書の内容は、初版から第三版まで変わっていません。字句の修正も第二版で殆ど済んでいます。

「Project Gutenberg」のeBookは、初版を基に電子化したものと考えられます。相違箇所は、電子化する際に誤ったものと思われます。現在流通している電子書籍の多くは、誤りも含めてProject Gutenbergのものをそのまま使用しています。
